There’s not much dorkier than a headlamp. I mean, maybe broken glasses held together with tape, or a T-shirt that says ‘There’s No Place Like 127.0.0.1’.

But if you can get past the stigma, and are deaf to the giggles, then a headlamp can be a lifesaving piece of kit for the long term traveler. It goes without saying that two hands are better than one, so why occupy one with a flashlight if it’s needed elsewhere.

The Energizer line of headlamps are surprisingly durable for such a reasonable price, are bright enough for most adventures save serious spelunking, and utilize a red ‘Night Vision’ feature which protects your eyes better than the white in certain situations.

All in all, this is one piece of kit I would not want to be without. With a fresh set of batteries these guys will last for weeks of hard use. They are relatively water resistant, in that I have been out in monsoon rain at night cutting down fallen trees and it still works, and has worked for 4 years.
